Ketorolac Tromethamine

Ketorolac Tromethamine Injection 30 mg contains the active substance Ketorolac tromethamine which belongs to the group of medicines called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Ketorolac is not a narcotic and is not habit-forming. It will not cause physical or mental dependence, as narcotics can. However, ketorolac is sometimes used together with a narcotic to provide better pain relief than either medicine used alone. Ketorolac is used to relieve moderately severe pain, usually pain that occurs after an operation or other painful procedure. Reducing pain helps you recover more comfortably so that you can return to your normal daily activities. It is usually given in cases where oral administration is unsuitable.

Pharmacology

Ketorolac is a non-selective NSAID that inhibits COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, normally responsible for converting arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. The COX-1 enzyme is constitutively active and can be found in platelets, gastric mucosa, and vascular endothelium. It works by blocking your body's production of certain natural substances that cause inflammation. This effect helps to decrease swelling, pain, or fever.
